The City of Evansville is partnering with Solar United Neighbors (SUN) to bring together residents for Southwest Indiana's first ever solar co-op! Rooftop solar can be a great way to save money on energy and boost your resilience to blackouts or extreme weather. That’s why we’re partnering with Solar United Neighbors (SUN) to help residents go solar at a lower cost!
The solar co-op helps homeowners in Southwest Indiana learn about solar and purchase panels at a group rate from a single installer. A group of volunteers from the co-op will select a solar company to complete the co-op's installations.
Homeowners can sign up for the solar co-op and get:

Expert advice from a trusted nonprofit
A supportive community of solar owners

The City of Evansville, IN is excited to officially launch its Climate Action Dashboard in collaboration with ClimateNav, a startup focused on helping local governments decarbonize and build more sustainable communities.
The Climate Action Dashboard will serve as a central place for the City to showcase progress on achieving its emissions reduction goals from its Climate Action Plan, up-to-date metrics about sustainability, and information about the various programs the City is helping fund and manage.
Additionally, the Dashboard includes useful information for residents of Evansville about how they can reduce their personal carbon footprint, get involved in local sustainability initiatives, and learn more about local climate action.

Our 2025 Climate Action Plan outlines 50 strategies to reduce our contribution to climate change and improve the sustainability, health, and resiliency of our community.
The goals are ambitious and the work is challenging, but together we can accomplish what we set our minds to. After all, we are investing in a better future for everyone.

Evansville Climate Collaborative

Below is a graph of overall, community-wide emissions in the City of Evansville. The graph shows historical emissions from 2019 to 2023, as well as projections in two scenarios: business as usual, or if the City achieves its Climate Action Plan reduction targets.
Evansville's 2023 Community-Wide Greenhouse Gas Inventory estimates total emissions of 2,779,254.94 MTCO2e. Stationary Energy accounts for 78.6% of emissions, followed by Transportation at 15.0% and Solid Waste & Wastewater at 6.4%.
The City's 2025 Climate Action Plan establishes two emissions reduction targets:
30% reduction below the 2023 baseline by 2030
80% reduction below the 2017 baseline by 2050
This inventory was conducted in collaboration with ClimateNav following the Global Protocol for Community-Scale GHG Emission Inventories (GPC) at the BASIC+ reporting level.
