
ECC hosted a series of presentations on heat pump systems during the second half of 2025.
The shift to clean energy means workers will move from fossil fuel jobs to jobs in renewable energy. Some people worry this change could lead to job loss. However, the growth of clean energy also creates new job opportunities. By supporting education and training programs, the city can help Evansville residents gain the skills they need for careers in solar, wind, and modern energy systems.
This effort can also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by making sure there are trained workers who can install and maintain clean energy technology in the community. Evansville already has strong programs in place. For example, Ivy Tech Community College offers training in renewable energy, including solar panel installation and energy monitoring. The Indiana NAACP’s PowerUp program also provides hands-on solar training and job support for people who are underemployed or reentering the workforce. Evansville currently participates in IU ERI's summer cohort that trains students in the sustainability field. Last summer, we hosted an intern that spread awareness about heat pumps and worked with contractors to perform energy audits for 3 local non-profits.
