A recent national study found that many car salespeople in the United States feel unprepared to sell electric vehicles because they do not have enough information to confidently answer customer questions. When the people responsible for selling vehicles feel unsure about EV technology, it highlights a broader challenge: many consumers still do not have clear or reliable information about electric and other AFVs. When people are unfamiliar with a new technology, they are often less likely to trust it or consider it as an option.
That’s why public education is so important! The ECC, along with METS and the Mayor’s Office, works to help close this information gap by sharing resources and hosting opportunities for residents to learn more about cleaner transportation options.
Community events are one of the best ways for people to see these vehicles up close and ask questions. In the past, events like Tri-State Creation Care’s “EVs 4 Everyone” have given residents the chance to explore and test drive electric and hybrid vehicles in a relaxed, community setting. To stay informed about upcoming events and educational opportunities, residents can subscribe to the ECC newsletter or follow organizations like Drive Clean Indiana and GOEVIN, which regularly share information about electric vehicles, incentives, and local EV events.

Improves air quality
Policies, practices, and programs that limit fossil fuel combustion reduce the emission of harmful air pollutants, such as particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxides. Adopting more sustainable actions enhances our air quality, resulting in improved health and a higher quality of life for everyone.

Supports local economy
An increase in demand for renewable energy systems, clean transportation options, and sustainable waste and land management methods create opportunities for research and innovation, market growth, product manufacturing, contractual services, and workforce development - all which furthers investment in the local economy.
